Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
