The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Change Comes After Mixed Feedback

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed employees about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a distinct vision.

The president stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the entire content from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After a period of conversations, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and background in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all eager to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.

David

Experience of the New Head

The appointee currently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. At the time, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary reads. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, risks, and challenges that evolve every match. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, put it on the line, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."

Project Ethos lacks an official launch window or platforms, but fans can expect more updates as creation advances.
