19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since that period of that year.

The win also means he has won 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
